Our Staff through printmaking

The printmaking studio at SCAD is truly a hidden treasure, a place where inspiration flows in extraordinary ways. Every nook and cranny is adorned with striking and often humorous student creations. Despite its industrial and technical nature—where even the smallest mistake could lead to chaos—the space exudes an unexpected calm, inviting both focus and creativity. It’s a gem we sometimes wish we could keep to ourselves, yet it’s something every student on campus should experience firsthand.

For this edition of the magazine, we wanted our team page to embody the handcrafted essence of fine arts, and what better medium than printmaking to capture that spirit? The textures, the colors, the precision required—all of it reflects the theme of this issue, “The Fine Arts.”

In collaboration with the incredibly talented Professor Robert Brown, we immersed ourselves in the intricate world of printmaking. With years of experience, Professor Brown’s skill is unparalleled—he has an almost intuitive ability to spot when something “needs more ink,” even when the difference is nearly imperceptible to the untrained eye. His deep knowledge and careful guidance brought this traditional art form to life for us, reminding us just how much skill and dedication it takes to create these works.

As a team, we want this edition to shine a light on the fine arts—those disciplines that demand our hands to create. These are technical, traditional forms of art, and they remain unmatched in their craft and beauty. It is vital that we appreciate these arts and ensure they never fade away.

The final result is a tribute to our exceptional team for this edition of SCAN, presented in a traditional print—a nod to the timeless artistry that defines this issue.
