Project 22
Photo Series by Kiden Riley
The title of the series “The 22 Project” stems from the core subject of the work. Kiden Riley, the artist, lost her father when she was 17 years old and created a photography project surrounding grief and death. 22 was her father’s favorite number, his lucky number, and later became hers. She decided to name this series “The 22 Project” based on how important that number became throughout her and her father’s lives.
The 22 images in this mixed-media series contain various elements of her experience with losing her father. Whether that be through old childhood images of them, pictures of cars he loved, or anything she found to also represent her grief. To push the idea further, Kiden used the physical process of polaroids to provide the connotation of memories. Including mixed media elements, she also added hand-written notes on various images, for the idea of what she would say to her father.
