My name is Danisca Benjamin. I’m a Haitian-American designer who blends emotional storytelling with textural craft. Rooted in memory, nostalgia, and the tension between softness and structure, my garments live in the space between fantasy and reality. I’m drawn to voluminous silhouettes that feel romantic yet weighted, airy but intentional, often layering hand-dyed fabrics, intricate styling, and sculptural accessories to build immersive worlds. Through fashion, I seek not only to design clothes, but to express quiet truths, speak to personal histories, and create garments that feel like fragments of dreams.

“Suffocated Serenity” is a reflection on daydreaming as a form of softness I can control. As a child, I escaped into soft, imagined worlds to cope with reality. Growing up with a mom who lives with schizophrenia, being in my own bubble felt more familiar than the world around me. As I’ve grown, these daydreams weigh heavily. Beautiful, but hard to breathe in. My collection explores the moment when fantasy becomes both a refuge and a trap—nestling soft tulle into a structured taeta— a sanctuary that softly sucrates. Through voluminous silhouettes, layers of hand-dyed tulle, and structural chrome accessories, I capture the tension between comfort and claustrophobia, serenity and suffocation. Each garment is a portal into that blurred space—where reality is escaped, but never quite escaped from.
