In the wake of Time magazine naming the architects of AI as the person of the year in 2025, the Spring 2026 edition of SCAN will focus on the innate connection between humans and the rest of our living world. From flora to fauna and from the depths of the sea to the far reaches of our universe, we all have our own unique way of connecting to what we know of as life. Biophilia, which essentially translates to “love of life,” is the human tendency to strive for this connection to the living. As climate change becomes more prominent and society immerses itself deeper into a world of technological advancement, it is imperative that we prioritize the natural world just as we have for the last 2.5 million years that humans have roamed the Earth.
We want this edition to show the ways in which our generation connects to nature, our need for companionship from people and animals alike, how we go back to our roots in our family, our urge to travel the world, our hopes for a better future, a plan for how we can build a better future, and much more.

About The Cover Artist
Juanita Pareja is a visual artist from Medellín, Colombia, whose work translates subconscious narratives of emotion and connection through vibrant, nostalgic imagery. She is currently in the process of completing a BFA in Illustration from Savannah College of Art and Design to graduate in 2026.
About The Cover
For this edition of SCAN, we wanted our cover to emphasize the feeling of love. The physical connection between the woman on the ground and the tree represents the attitude everyone needs to have towards nature in order to preserve our world for future generations. The creative team selected flowers containing personal meanings to each of us from different aspects of our lives.
